On the same day, Meta unveiled a leaner AI agent that runs on a single graphics chip rather than a roomful of them, and Mark Zuckerberg published a note arguing that AI should be built for everyone. Everyone sees the spending. The quieter story is the push to make AI cheaper, and if a capable model can run on one chip instead of a warehouse full, the economics of the whole business shift and some of today's priciest bets start to look shakier. I have watched enough booms to know the companies that spend first are not always the ones left standing. For anyone holding AI-heavy funds, the growth is real, and so is the crowd already packed onto that trade.From WashingtonTomorrow's inflation number carries extra weightThe government releases [the July Consumer Price Index](https://www.bls.gov/cpi/?ref=keep-and-grow.ghost.io) tomorrow morning at 8:30 Eastern. Forecasters expect prices rose about 0.1 percent from June and 3.4 percent over the year, a touch cooler than June's 3.5 percent. On a normal month that is a footnote. This is not a normal month.After Friday's weak jobs report, this reading is the other half of the Fed's decision. A soft number would strengthen the case to cut rates, which would ease the cost of mortgages and credit cards over time. A hot one, especially in rent and everyday services, keeps that door shut.
